Tutorials
I have been wargaming for nearly 15 years and I thought it would be a great idea to put down all the little tips and tricks I have picked up over the years so that people who are new to the hobby can pick up some really useful tips! All the tips and guides are rated from 1 star to 5 stars (1 being easy and 5 being hard).
Painting and Detailing Guides
Painting - Imperial Fist Armour
Yellow is often seen as a difficult colour to paint well. I have had so many of you ask how I paint my Imperial Fists I have decided to share my technique with you all in this step by step guide.
Painting - Black
Black is a tough colour to get to grips with. Trying to get it still look black after you have applied the highlights
is a problem. This guide shows you one way to get a clean, crisp looking black colour. Once you know a good technique you can apply it to weapons, armour or anything you want!
Painting - NMM Gold Banners
Controversial it may be but NMM is a popular painting style. I think it is most striking when used for fabric such as banner and uniform details. In this simple step by step guide I show you how I personally approach painting my NMM banners.
Decals - Painted on Style
Ever used a decal (transfer) only for it to ruin the finish of your mini? Ever get that annoying silvering or shining on your decal? Want your decals to look 'painted on'? Well this is the tutorial for you! In this tutorial I take you through the few steps it takes to get professional looking decals.
Citadel vs Vallejo Game & Model Colour Comparison Chart
After receiving loads of questions about colour mixes and alternative colours people can use to get the same effects, I thought it would be a great idea to make a comparison chart for the main colour ranges I use day to day in my painting. Your favourite colour been discontinued in one range?? No longer a problem just look up the alternative here! N.B. Citadel & VGC are exact colour matches
Sculpting & Converting Guides
Sculpting Skulls
Skulls are a very useful object to be able to sculpt. You can add them to your minis, dioramas and gaming bases. All the skulls you see on bases of minis in my gallery section have been sculpted by me and here I show you how.
Terrain Building Guides
Sci - Fi Jungle Terrain
I have to admit I love my battlefield terrain. I build as much of my own stuff as possible. In this guide I will show you how I create the jungle scenery pieces you see in my scenery section in my gallery. These pieces are generic and can be used for any sci fi or fantasy games.
A bit of an obsession of mine at the moment is to take older minis that you can't easily get hold of anymore and giving them some treatment in my infirmary. Some I have found in boxes in my attic and haven't seen since I started collecting minis over 15 years ago while others I have purchased off the internet because I really like the mini and haven't already got it myself. Treatments range from simple paint stripping, minor conversions to update weapons and equipment and then a brand new paint job and base.
The Infirmary
Space Wolf Captain
This is the first of many minis I hope to give some treatment in my infirmary. One of my all time favourite minis, a Space Wolf Captain from 1992. It is no longer in production and is quite difficult to get hold of. Take a look at how I have taken the mini, paint stripped it, converted him to update his equipment and weapon systems and finally given him a nice new paint job.
